I am admittedly a handbag nut and love well-crafted bags that will stand the test of time. I have never understood why would purchase a bag that would just disintegrate on you. Buy great quality and it will serve you for the rest of your days. Hence, you’ll probably understand my affection for Mark Cross bags.

Let’s take a brief moment for some fashion history. Mark Cross is a name that’s synonymous with American accessories history, originally established as a saddler and harness-maker, the line was purchased by the Murphy family in 1875. This connection led to the goods making their way into the hands of the family’s legendary notable friends, such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Picasso, Cole Porter, Ernest Hemingway and Dorothy Parker. In short, they were well-heeled bags for the creative jet set.

Mark Cross bags became world-renowned when a bag was made for Grace Kelly to carry in Hitchcock’s Rear Window. Demand for the bag was so high for the piece that the “Grace Box Bag” was produced for customers to satisfy ravenous fashion fans. It’s become the brand’s most famous bag.

This new collection, Collection I, is a gorgeous, sumptuous collection made from Italian leathers and crafted in the same factories as the famous originals. With the DNA of the brand’s classic (the collection was inspired by items found in the vintage archives) and with a color palette that’s fresh and exciting, the line will range in price from $1,495 – 2,350 and will debut at Barneys New York next week on January 30th in-store and online.
