Gals, I have a family secret to dish. My mother, God bless her, has entirely too many printed pants. So, let’s be real here: my mother has a PRINTED PANTS PROBLEM. Every year, we survey the sheer volume of cheerful, brightly-printed capri pants that are broken out every spring and summer, and I am simply agog at the amount of these items in her wardrobe. So, as a result, I have a fear of these clothing items.
It’s a teenage response to the issue, but whatever. Mom ROCKS them, don’t get me wrong, but I think somewhere in my subconscious I’ve been concerned that one pair would be a fashion gateway drug to an exploding closet of prints. I’ve resisted for years…
Until J.Crew and their damned factory outlet full of goodness tripped me up. Damn.
Ok, so truth be told, anything that Jenna Lyons does, I’m probably going to give it a go and I’ve been surveying her use of prints. So, on my recent trip to the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, I found myself in a dressing room in a pair of pretty paisley cropped pants. They’re super comfortable and much preppier than I would normally wear, but here I am now, the proud owner of a pair of pants that will surely be the first of many to follow.
My way of rocking these pants is decidedly more menswear-inspired than my beloved Mom, with some cute brogues and a denim shirt. It’s a perfectly breezy look that’s sharp enough to hit a business casual meeting in the morning (just add a blazer) or untucked and mellow like you see here.
Here’s a breakdown of what I’m wearing:
- Chambray Shirt: American Eagle Chambray Western Shirt
- Tank: H&M (no longer available, similar styles here)
- Cropped pants: J. Crew Cafe Capri (more prints available here)
- Brogues: Call It Spring Sorvagur (they’re like a million years old and they’re weathered beautifully)
- Handbag: Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag (similar styles available here)
- Sunglasses: Superdry (similar styles here)
- Watch: Brera Orologi Isabella Chrono
What do you think? How do you rock printed pants? Do share!
