Dolls, there are two misgivings about New York City dames I feel I must dispel. Despite what you’ve seen on Sex and the City, we DO NOT buy our entire fab wardrobes full price (we live for a good bargain) and, though we love Manhattan, we love to cheat on our city with little weekend vacays. If we can combine these two pursuits at once, we are seriously happy campers. I recently did and am thrilled to report back:
I rose at the crack of dawn recently to journey with some other online lovelies to the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, a sprawling shopping haven that pretty much has the lockdown on many fashion, beauty and home items of the well-look-what-we-have-HERE outlet variety.
Once we arrived, my gals Dina from eye4style and Julia from Fashion Pulse Daily and I promptly set to work shopping like fiends for a solid four hours. I hit some personal favorites - Barneys New York, J. Crew, Neiman Marcus Last Call, Prada/Miu Miu, DKNY, Roberto Cavalli and Gap. This is what I scored, all between 20-90% of retail:
- Barneys New York Outlet: dove grey silk dress, striped body-con jersey dress, Pamela Love cuff, Ettika tiger eye and crystal bracelet
- J Crew: paisley-printed cotton pants that I LOVE
- DKNY: gorgeous black silk shorts
- GAP: 5 tank tops, which I buy in bulk when I see them because I wear them to death all year, one quite cute pair of flip flops
- Last Call Neiman Marcus: black 7 for all Mankind suede peep toe wedges (because I realized I didn’t have any)
However, I would also like to note that other favorites would have been visited had time permitted, including Off 5th (Saks Fifth Avenue), Gucci, Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers (I love the men’s shirts and leather goods), Converse, Diesel, Kenneth Cole, Judith Leiber, Tory Burch and everything Ralph Lauren, especially the Ralph Lauren Home outlet.
My advice? Plan for more time, shop the day, go with a plan. They’re having KILLER sales this weekend, so please do hit this outlet (or any of the other Premium Outlets) this weekend. Join their VIP club for insider alerts for even more savings. Plus, I should note that later this summer I will have to return: evidently there’s a Tom Ford outlet on its way, which means – in the immortal words of AHNOLD, “I’ll be back.”
But even more delightful (almost, sort of) than performing your own designer version of Supermarket Sweep is a comfortable hotel in which to roll around in your purchases with unabashed joy. Hence, I would recommend the gorgeous, historic Thayer Hotel, a quick jaunt by courtesy van (or via car) from the outlets and a beautiful, scenic place to rest your body after epic shopping.
The hotel boasts a great outdoor bar, Zulu Time, plus a fabulous restaurant and bar in which they serve fantastic continental cuisine. There are a LOT of weddings and ceremonies at this hotel, which means that you might drop down to Zulu Time for an after party and go pick up unsuspecting groomsmen, single gals. I’m just saying.
But, if like me you just needed a quiet break, the food is delicious, the views are breathtaking and the beds are epic. I should also mention free wifi for us social media types. I start to twitch when I’m separated from my iPhone for too long.
SPECIAL BONUS: Take advantage of the Thayer’s Shop and Stay package AND if you mention that you’re booking your stay from seeing it on my site, you will score a free cocktail at Zulu Time. I mean, I do what I can for you.
Score some discount designer threads? Sleep in the most comfortable bed ever created? Possibly pick up West Point cadets and partying groomsmen after weddings? How can you miss this kind of fun? Book your trip now!
