The interesting thing about the blogosphere is that we really do influence each other. As someone wisely just told me, we are “running our own race” to be our own personal best, but you can’t help but be influenced by some of the girls who speak to you. When we shot photos in and around my apartment last week, I asked Jeff to do something a little different, which was to shoot me the way I normally look.
The inspiration from this look came from two of my favorite blogging inspiration gals: Patrice Grell Yursik of Afrobella and Gabi Gregg of Gabi Fresh. Patrice is a constant personal influence of mine and a dear friend, someone who has pushed time and time again for me to just let down my guard and let myself shine through. As open as I can be on the blog, she’s right: sometimes you just need to let people see the real you.
Gabi is an inspiration because she is so unapologetically herself, with a beauty that is simply forged from fierceness. When photos of Gabi are snapped, her personality literally pops through the photo. She’s there, she’s fabulous, handle it.
Both of these girls inspired these two photos but most importantly have inspired me to really consider what it means to be beautiful. Beauty, as I’ve recently remembered, comes from your soul shining through your eyes. While flickers have glowed here and there, it’s time for me to stoke mine, to blaze brighter.
This is me. Every day. Sometimes, it’s fun to strike a pose and put that out there, but more often than not, it’s quiet moments like this where I see a snap of myself and think, “Yeah, that’s beautiful.”
Particularly in my new obsession, this Fallon Cairo Bib Necklace, a recent gift. Do I normally rock giant jewelry like this when I’m just hanging out. YEP, I sure do. I dress for myself. No one has to SEE something for me to enjoy it. But otherwise, this is just a soft Stylemint draped top and a pair of my ex-boyfriend’s jeans. Some things you HAVE to keep after a breakup.
Be inspired by Gabi and Patrice. Be yourself, be brazen, be bold…
