Fashion Week Diaries: Diane Von Furstenberg Fall 2013 Collection

When I walked into the Diane von Furstenberg collection and saw the program declaring that the inspiration was Glam Rock, I knew I was in for a show. I mean, many people can say that they understand this influence, but someone with DVF’s past references and life (she LIVED Studio 54, she’s on a first name basis with Mick Jagger and David Bowie, I’m sure she has them on speed dial) this is where the references become real, where you know that the collection will be current but tinged with an insider view. I was giddy with excitement.

The collection didn’t disappoint. Signature wrap dresses and gorgeous graphic prints came down the runway to an inspired 70′s soundtrack.

The hair was big and bouncy, practically hot roller set as an homage to the beauty of the era.

With DVF, life’s a party, so why not live it up? The collection sported metallic jeans, blown-up leopard print (she’s calling it “leopard bark”) and tons of sultry separates in a 70′s inspired palette of bronze, fiery reds, vivid pinks and burnt umber with pops of blue.

The prints were gorgeous, the silhouettes were flattering and everything that was referenced felt new and fresh.

Diane took a solo walk to “I’m every woman” by Chaka Khan at the end of the runway, walking the entire thing with such joy and life. It’s a life all of us want to live and a gorgeous celebration of a collection that’s inspired by someone who has become everything she ever wanted to be…with all of us following her every move.
