For his Fall/Winter 2010 collection, Prabal Gurung was inspired by a hard-edged, seductive, surprised-filled love. A sultry rendition of “Addicted to Love” began to play as the lights came up, then as the bass kicked in, out came Karlie Kloss, looking dangerously sexy in a one-shouldered, artfully draped red dress. Sliced black Wolford tights, a black leather belt and Nicholas Kirkwood heels helped to tell the story.

The rest of the looks were equally stunning.  Red leather accents spiced up a black and white lace dress.

A red silk blouse  looked surprisingly modern paired with pink slacks.
Gurung modified standard silhouettes and pieces with Victorian, Miss Havisham-esque details: red chiffon gathered into a high, regal collar and lace laid onto a white blazer in precise panels. Also noteworthy is a breathtaking white-to-purple ombre fur coat and a heavenly crinkled bodice that floated off a model’s dress above a black tie belt.

True to form, Kirkwood designed sexy, nearly grungy sandals and booties in black and pink leather which complimented Wolford’s cut-up creations, and had me reaching for my scissors.

The show’s final looks delivered the dramatic embroidery and details that A-listers and first ladies alike have come to expect from Gurung. Swarovski crystals, paillettes, and ostrich feathers cascading down a black gown that will surely draw stars such as Jennifer Lopez and Blake Lively. Funkier celebs like Camilla Bella and Leighon Meester will no doubt snap up the red and pink pieces, as well as the dresses with flowing “bibs.”

With this collection Gurung exhibited a clear evolution and growth since his inaugural 2009 showing. Still, the show boasted the same tailoring and cohesion that’s distinctly Prabal.
